Jason Miller - When Jesus tells us not to worry, is this just a command that adds shame to our struggles with anxiety? Or does he give us wisdom for how we can become more aware of the care and competency of God?

Thursday Jan 27, 2022
Thursday Jan 27, 2022
This past weekend we spent our time together learning about, praying through, and meditating on the Lord’s Prayer as it’s found in Matthew 6. We hope that this liturgy serves as a tool that breathes new life into this well known prayer.Full Transcript HEREResources:The Lord’s Prayer - Matthew 6:9-13 (NIV)The Disciple’s Prayer - https://enfleshed.com/liturgy/the-disciples-prayer/Song Credits:At the Table by Common HymnalGreat Are You Lord by All Sons and DaughtersIt Is Well by Horatio SpaffordSufficient For Today by Maverick City MusicOut of Hiding by Steffany GretzingerSteady Heart by Steffany Gretzinger and Amanda CookIf you're a part of the growing digital SBCC community, we'd love to hear from you! Jason Miller - At the center of the sermon on the mount, we find the prayer Jesus taught his disciples to pray. How do we approach prayer as something other than a lever to pull to make things happen, or a duty to perform to earn divine approval?

Jason Miller - Jesus continues his warnings against public displays of religiosity when he talks about prayer and fasting. What is his concern and what does it mean for those of us who no longer find ourselves in a world with religious expectations? This week's episode also includes an important update on our future church home.*

1.9 [REFLECTION] You Are Not Alone Liturgy - Isaiah 43:1-7
Thursday Jan 13, 2022
Thursday Jan 13, 2022
In our gatherings this weekend, we took time before jumping back into the Sermon on the Mount to reflect on and respond to the last few weeks. Sometimes we can feel alone in whatever we're going through, whether it's the deep pain of life not being what we thought it would be or experiencing a season of great joy in the midst of everyone else's chaos. We hope that this liturgy serves as a reminder to everyone in our community that "you are not alone".Full Transcript HERESong: I Am Not Alone by Kari Jobe CCLI SONG #7007821

Jason Miller - Jesus tells us to give in secret, without "trumpeting" the gift or letting one hand know what the other is doing. Why does giving in secret matter? And what do we do with the apparent contradiction between this teaching and his instruction in chapter 5 to let people see our good deeds?

Jason Miller - When things are hard, like they are right now, we find all kinds of ways to try to escape. Some of those paths are more destructive than others, but they all take us further away from hope.

Jason Miller and Daniel Bannoura - If Advent is a time to explore the meaning of hope in the face of dark realities, we should talk about injustice. Daniel Bannoura is a Palestinian Christian and a member of our SBCC family who shared with us about the experience of violence and injustice in his homeland and the ways he seeks hope.
